easyJet Pram Policy: Can You Take A Pram on EasyJet Flights?

Easyjet plane - Nexus Stroller

Many budget airlines in the UK give parents additional hold luggage so that they can travel with their prams or buggies.

Is easyJet one of those airlines?

This post is all about easyJet’s pram policy and how to make the most of it. So, read on for more details!

easyJet Pram Policy at a Glance

As long as you’re travelling with a child under five, easyJet will let you travel with a pram. Besides the regular cabin bag allowance, parents get to add two additional child-care items to the hold. These items include:

  • Prams, buggies or pushchairs
  • Travel cots
  • Car seats
  • Booster seats
  • and even double pushchairs.

3 Ways to Take a Pram With You When Travelling with easyJet

According to the airline’s policies, you have three options here. Two of them wouldn’t cost you any additional fees, while the third requires a booking upgrade.

Let’s take a closer look.

1. Check It at the Bag Drop

The obvious approach is to check the pram at the airline’s bag drop station. You’ll then carry your baby as you go through security and board.

Once you arrive at your destination, you can claim the pram from the carousel just like you would with any checked luggage.

2. Keep Using It Right Until You’re Ready to Board

easyJet’s pram policy includes an alternative and convenient gate-checking option.

You’ll have to take your child out as you go through security, and the pram will still end up in the plane hold once it’s collected at the gate. But at least you’ll get to use the pram as you wait for boarding.

For instance, this would help you do some shopping or even walk the baby a bit to soothe them before the flight. It’s also helpful for families who prefer to arrive at the airport way too early and can’t afford to spend hours without the pram.

Keep in mind that you’ll have boarding priority anyway since you’re travelling with a child under five. Sure, easyJet will first board passengers who need special assistance and speedy boarding customers, but you’ll be next in line.

So, don’t worry about having to check the pram in a rush at the gate. You’ll have enough time.

3. If You Pay Extra, You Can Take the Pram to the Cabin

If you’d rather not check the pram at all, consider paying for a large cabin bag upgrade.

The airline’s policy allows parents to bring any of the items on the allowed child equipment list as large cabin bags, not just prams. Of course, easyJet’s rules for cabin bags still apply, and we’ll get to the maximum dimensions in a moment!

For now, it’s worth noting that paying extra for this upgrade also comes with speedy boarding benefits.

Choosing a Suitable Pram for Your easyJet Flight

We looked at the different ways to travel with a pram on easyJet flights. Now, let’s figure out how to pick the right pram for the trip.

Type

Technically, both collapsible and non-collapsible models are acceptable. easyJet doesn’t exclude one type from the free additional hold policy for passengers with kids under five.

That said, you might want to opt for a collapsible one such as the: Nexus EasyGo Compact Travel Stroller if you wish to bring the pram to the cabin. Remember that, in this case, it would need to be stowed in the overhead locker.

Side Note: The fact that some airlines only allow collapsible prams is another reason to pick a foldable model our Nexus EasyGo Compact Travel Stroller is the perfect choice!  This way, you can still travel with it if you choose to switch airlines later.

Dimensions

In order for a pram to fit into easyJet’s overhead locker, it should collapse to a size no larger than 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Don’t forget to include the handles and wheels in this measurement as well.

If, however, you’re okay with checking in the pram at a bag drop desk, you’ll have more leeway here.

Weight

The airline also has a weight limit for cabin bags (your pram will fall under this category if you take it to the cabin). So, make sure the whole thing is 15 kg or less.

Remember that you’ll also be the one to fold, lift, and stow the pram overhead. Choosing a lightweight, travel-friendly model will go a long way here.

Other Essential Items to Consider

Prams aside, you need to think about how you’ll seat your little one on the plane.

easyJet gives parents two choices. The first is to seat the baby on your lap. You’ll save money on getting an extra seat, but there’s an infant fee to cover. For take-off and landings, the crew will provide a seat belt extension.

The second option is to get in touch with easyJet’s CS team and book a separate seat for your baby. They’ll make sure you don’t get a restricted seat.

However, you won’t be able to use the regular seat belt on your kid. What do you do for take-off, landing, and whenever the seat sign is on? Well, here are the three solutions that easyJet suggests:

  • Carry your baby on your lap,
  • Put them in a forward-facing, cabin-approved car seat (booster seats are NOT acceptable).
  • Use a CARES (Child Aviation Restraint System) harness on the plane seat.

Side Note: The airline doesn’t provide car seats or harnesses, which means you’ll have to bring those yourself.

Final Thoughts: Find the Perfect, Cabin-Approved Pram Today!

All in all, easyJet’s policy on travelling with prams, strollers, and other baby equipment seems reasonable. The airline lets you check the pram in bag drop, gate-check it, or even take it on the plane.

Still, you want a pram that’s as travel-friendly as possible. Think compact silhouette, lightweight frame, and straightforward fold/assembly operation. Nexus EasyGo Compact Travel Stroller
